Historic Tabor United Methodist Church (TUMC), located in the Perkiomen
Valley’s beautiful countryside, announced today that its United Methodist Women’s
Group (UMW) was chosen by the UMW Eastern Pennsylvania Conference as its Gold
Award winner in the Northeast District for 2011. The Gold Award is the Conference’s
top and number 1 award. The TUMC UMW was the single 2011 Gold Award winner in
the Northeast District among dozens of other District United Methodist Women’s groups.
The Tabor United Methodist Women’s Group qualified for the top award in the
Northeast District by serving and ministering in 15 different programs garnering a top
score of 26 points. Some of the qualifying programs are contributing to five channels of
giving, recruit readers for the Reading Program, and participate in a hands-on mission
project.
The purpose of the Mission Unit is to: 1) energize UMW to be more involved
with mission through prayer, study, and action; 2) increase contacts between units and
mission personnel and mission projects so that UMW understand where their money
goes; 3) encourage use of mission resources through UMW; and 4) expand concepts of
mission, including social justice as mission.
Tabor UMC Pastor Blaik Westhoff says, “Our UMW Group is to be
congratulated for its top Gold Award and many works in the name of our Lord God. Its
women members truly represent God’s role for them to help men and women to better
know the love and word of God, and make of them Disciples of Christ. We are very
pleased our UMW group is another example of how God is calling upon Tabor UMC and
its members to provide valuable and empowering outreach to the many residents in the
surrounding communities we serve.”
