“We Move Forward Even During Times of Conflict” (3/4/12)

Pastor Blaik J. Westhoff,
Scripture: Acts 6:1-15

Sermon Questions:
1. What important things can we learn from this story about how God will move Tabor Church into the future?

2. Within the life of the church there is ‘Bad’ conflict and ‘Good’ conflict. What are the key differences between these types of conflict?

3. Can this type of conflict resolution still work today? Can you think of an example?

4. More than anything else, what do you view as the one thing that will move Tabor into God’s future?

Further Study:
Matthew 18:15-17(NIV)
15 “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ 17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

1. Why did Jesus give us these instructions?

2. In what ways have you seen this type of conflict resolution played out within your life? How about within the life of the church?

Ephesians 4:31-32 (NIV)
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

1. How does conflict within the church “grieve the Holy Spirit”?

2. What role does ‘compassion’ and forgiveness’ play in conflict resolution?
