Come and hear about the exciting work of Steve and Becky Thorson, missionaries to Nepal on Saturday, January 4th, 2014. We’ll begin with a potluck dinner in Weller Hall at 6:00 pm, then move to a presentation by the Thorsons in the sanctuary at 7:00 pm.
Stephen and Becky Thorson have been missionaries sent by the World Mission Prayer League to the country of Nepal (Mt Everest country) for 30 years. Becky is the visa holder, most recently in a full-time position as the Expatriate Support Advisor for the United Mission to Nepal. She also teaches a pre-teen Sunday school class at Nepali church and some psychology classes to university students. Stephen is a pediatrician, and works half-time teaching medical interns and residents, working in the clinics, and coordinating a big research program at Patan Hospital. He also works on computer production of Christian literature in the Nepali language.
Past projects include Bibles for the Nepal Bible Society, an adapted Nepali Bible Dictionary, Sunday School materials, a concordance for the Nepali Bible, and most recently Sit, Walk, Stand by Watchman Nee. He wrote most of the topical articles for an original New Testament Commentary in Nepali, and the later English version (The Applied New Testament Commentary) has been translated into around 35 languages around the world. The Applied Old Testament Commentary in English was published by David C. Cook at the end of 2007, and is being translated into over 10 languages so far. But his favorite work is teaching theology to Bible school students.
